Reflection + Editing Details

I wanted to start with something simple and something that I could use to build a larger image with, so I looked up basic shapes to see if any stood out. Originally, I was going to use a circle as my inspiration but then I thought about using a semicircle and looked up that and found images of different ways in which they abnormally fit together, such as inverting a circle to have the two halves facing outwards. Starting with the Golden Ratio swirl I layered four upon each other and rotated each new layer so that the part in the middle formed a circle. I was stuck for a long time because I wanted the work to take up the entire 8x10 canvas but had yet to find a good background image. I then began to make my own background by masking the image of the galaxy so that it was mainly the light left. I copied and pasted that image over and over to create a sort of pattern. I liked the areas of light and dark that it created. I wanted symmetry in my work and that is where I got the idea of the protractors on the top and bottom. I wanted to fill in the space within the protractors so I decided to contrast the top and bottom by putting a sunset and a sunrise in the protractors. I then used the rug image and manipulated it to be the inverted circle and put that in each corner. Finally, I selected and cut out the halfmoon from the image and rotated it to fit near the inverted circle rug to build on it. Overall, I am surprised how the work turned out since I didn’t know what I was doing the majority of the time, nevertheless I enjoyed playing around to build something of my own.
