Night Owl

Portfolio2.jpg

Reflection + Editing Details

The inspiration for this piece comes from being a night owl. I remember being up late at 3am, looking out my room window and seeing all other lights being completely off. My light was the only one still on and I wanted to recreate it in a larger setting.

After pasting in the background textured scan for the sky, I used the rectangular marquee tool to create individual black rectangles and the triangle tool to create the roofs. After I used the line tool to create a white border around the buildings. Once satisfied with sizing I merged them all together. I copied and pasted the skyscraper into each of the following panels. I then used the rectangular marquee tool to create an individual light, again using the yellow paper scan. I started at the top of each building and copied and pasted the light across to make a row. I then copied and pasted the row until I reached the bottom of each building.

Individual lights were turned off randomly. Once satisfied with the building lights I copied and pasted them onto the second and fourth quadrants. Only one light was pasted into the third quadrant to represent the night owl. Additional lights were turned off in the second quadrant to show more people going to sleep as the night progressed and the third quadrant was supposed to be the latest part of the night with only one person left awake. The last quadrant has different lights turned on than the second quadrant as this is when the people are just starting to wake up in the early morning. The moon is copied and pasted from the first work in my portfolio and used to show the passing of time over night.
